Discover how to unwind after work

Unwind. Relax. Take a load off. What does it really mean to say that you intend to ‘unwind after work’? Because the definition of what it means to unwind is so broad, this looks very different for each one of us.

For some, to unwind can mean to curl up on the couch with a good book and a hot mug of tea, while for others it can look like connection and community - a walk with a friend or a glass of wine at the end of your work week. There really is no shortage of ways we can individually choose to unwind after work, and what’s most important is that we carve out the time to actually do it.

When we get busy and the daily demands of life start adding up, it’s natural for many of us to put the needs of others - our partners, our children, our careers - ahead of our own, and this can lead to all sorts of burnout we’d rather not have to experience.

We’ve compiled a list of products and top tips to help support you in feeling optimally well and that can help you transform your routine as you learn how you want to unwind after work.

How to unwind after work with products to support relieving stress

One of the things we want to avoid most by prioritizing our unwind after work routine is feelings of added stress. If working from home, homeschooling our children and washing an absurd amount of dishes each day and night isn’t stressful enough, we’re doing everything we can to stay mindful about the effects of stress in our lives. From headaches to heartburn and insomnia, stress is not messing around when it comes to disrupting our lives. Let’s collectively work to manage stress and feel our best with natural solutions.

Stress Release roll-on: this oil blend product is simple to use. Blended with soothing lavender, balancing geranium and supportive clary sage, roll on to areas of the body like temples, wrists and along the jawline to feel instantly calmed and on your way to de-stressing. A convenient, portable roll-on means you can take this product with you in your pocket or purse for a moment of wellness anytime you need it.

Stress Release mist: similar in formula to the roll-on, this is a mist that is designed to be spritzed over the face and body for a quick and easy stress relieving moment. Our favorite way to use it is to close our eyes and mouth, shake the bottle vigorously and mist generously in the space above our head. As the relaxing mist falls over you, breathe deeply and feel its effects. Bonus: you can mist your pillows and sheets before bed each night.

Relax-O-Ring massage ring: it’s like a mini massage in a box. Designed with the grounding and stabilizing properties of reflexology in mind, this copper massage ring can be rolled up and down each of the fingers to help calm and de-stress both the body and mind.

How to unwind after work with products to support movement and recovery

Another way that many of us choose to unwind after work doesn’t at first seem to have much to do with unwinding at all. Moving our bodies, getting sweaty and leaving it all in the gym or the yoga studio is a way in which many people find themselves relieving stress, releasing pent up frustration and in turn, feeling calmer.

Experts have long agreed that exercise is one of the most productive ways to help our bodies unwind in that physical activity can produce endorphins that can help improve sleep and reduce stress.

Peppermint Halo roll-on: there isn’t much this little amber bottle can’t do! The very first product formulated at Saje more than 25 years ago is a blend of warming and cooling oils like peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary. Because of the stimulant nature of these essential oils, they can help keep your body feeling revitalized pre-workout. We love to roll along the back of our neck and trapezius muscles before hitting the gym or the track to feel cool and comfortable during our workouts.

Pain Release bath salts: when you want your body to feel eased and comforted, there really is nothing like a warm and serene bath. This bath salt soak was formulated with essential oils like rosemary and marjoram which are known for their comforting and relieving properties, which can help to relax and ease sore, tired muscles after a tough workout. Add 2-5 tablespoons and soak for 30 minutes.

Muscle Melt body butter: post-bath, treat your skin to hydration and nourishment with this rich and creamy body butter, formulated with skin softening butters from coconut, mango and shea. We’ve added warming and stimulating essential oils like rosemary and marjoram to the formula to help ease stiffness in the muscles while ensuring the skin feels supple.

How to unwind after work with products to support your bath and shower routine

Nothing says ‘treat yourself’ like a luxurious bath or shower routine. Not just for cleansing the body, this is time we create to treat ourselves and set the tone for how we want to feel. Since our skin is our body’s largest organ, it stands to reason that it’s a good idea to prioritize its health. Choosing 100% plant-based and gentle-on-the-skin body products, free from synthetic chemicals, parabens and fragrances, means that you can feel good about the choices you’re making each time you step into the tub.

Jute and Joy Goddess soap wash pad: this fan-favorite product, a daily use, gently exfoliating soap-filled wash pad, is formulated with essential oils known to bring about feelings of self love and compassion. Orange is known for its ability to lift the mood, ylang ylang is a fragrant flower that brings peace and geranium is both balancing and grounding. Cleanse the body each time you step into the bath or shower and follow with your favorite body lotion for hydration.

Parisian Garden bar soap: not your standard bar of soap, this blend of purifying french green clay meets refreshing lemon and balancing geranium to give you the ultimate self care treat. 100% natural soaps are free of surfactants or other ingredients that can leave the skin feeling tight, dry or itchy. Try this bar for a scent experience that will have you reminiscing about your last trip to the spa.

How to unwind after work with products to support a good night’s rest

Perhaps the most important thing we can do to help ourselves unwind after work is to set ourselves up for a great day, the next day. Did you know that 1 in 3 adults report not getting enough sleep each night? An extended period of time in which we aren’t fueling our bodies with proper rest can wreak havoc on many other areas of our lives, including making us feel grumpier and lethargic, which often leads to getting less done in our day and results in feeling extra stress. Break the cycle and help yourself unwind after work by using some time each night to set yourself up for success the next day. This might look like laying out your outfit the night before, pre-packing lunches or even pre-making a smoothie for breakfast. The little things really do add up, and when tended to each day, can help our unwind after work time feel like an extra gift.

Tranquility diffuser blend: add 5-10 drops of this serene, peaceful and calming diffuser blend to a diffuser of your choice, and let yourself melt into bed at the end of a long day. Blended with ingredients renowned for their ability to help your body and mind feel at ease like roman chamomile, lavender and marjoram, our favorite tip is to turn a diffuser on in your bedroom 20-30 minutes before you intend to hit the hay, so your room feels welcoming and inviting at bedtime.

Sleep Well roll-on: when rest is what you seek, this blend is your best friend at bedtime. The key ingredient in this formula is valerian, which is a well-known herb in aromatherapy and herbalism prized for its abilities to support deep rest and relaxation. This formula also includes jasmine, orange and lavender, and can be rolled onto the throat, chest and bottoms of the feet to support helping you wind down and ease your body towards rest.

Sweet Dreams diffuser blend collection: if you’re the type of person who likes variety in your bedtime routine, this curated set of four diffuser blends might be right for you. Each blend contains ingredients that are well-recognized for the ways in which they encourage our body and mind to feel rested and relaxed, like roman chamomile, geranium and vetiver. This kit is a great way to find a new favorite or to have options for when you’re feeling like switching it up.

Our top tips for how to unwind after work

Outside of products you can use to help you explore how to unwind after work, here are some of our favorite suggestions for activities to set you on a path for rest and relaxation.

  1. Turn off your screens. To signal to both your body and mind that it’s time to wind down, make a concerted effort to create space between you and your devices. Even a 1 hour break can help you feel refreshed!
  2. Drink a large glass of water. Do you ever notice how getting caught up in emails and zoom meetings can make you forget to stay hydrated during the day? A big glass of water after work will help rehydrate your body and still give you the proper time to digest before dinner.
  3. Center yourself through breathing exercises. If you don’t have time to meditate, give yourself even 3-5 conscious, deep breaths to help ground and stabilize after a long day. Try breathing in through your nose, hold for 3 seconds, and exhale slowly through the mouth. Repeat as needed to feel balanced.

There are many ways in which you can train your body on how to unwind after work, and finding what works best for you can be the start of something tranquil.
