EXPLORE FLORAL ESSENTIAL OILS FOR WELL-BEING AND VITALITY
Picture yourself on your front porch in the summertime, a cup of tea in hand and the warm rays of the sun’s light peaking through at sunrise. Explore in your mind the sights and sounds of summer and you’ll almost certainly land on a visual that includes the colorful, expansive and aromatic blooms that accompany the season. Plants and their flowers are not only a positive sensory experience; the importance of flowers in nature cannot be overstated. Flowers are everything from a reproductive aid to the plant itself, a food source for both humans and animals and producers of many medicinal supports and wellness products. Read on to learn more about some of the floral essential oils that we love.
THE VERSATILITY OF FLORAL ESSENTIALS OILS
In aromatherapy, floral essential oils are often described as middle notes. They blend harmoniously with top notes (light, fresh oils like orange, lemon and grapefruit) and base notes (rich, earthy oils like sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli) to act as the ‘heart’ of the blend. Many of the floral essential oils that are used in aromatherapy are similar in scent profile to the flowers from which they are extracted, and are often described as subtle and sweet, considered useful in comforting the mind, promoting rest and balancing the mood.
FLORAL ESSENTIAL OIL #1: NOURISHING, SUPPORTIVE ROSE
Rose is the queen of essential oils, and is one of the most rich and sweet oils to experience in aromatherapy. Historically, rose was sacred to early Persian societies; it was thought to symbolize perfection and the thorns were believed to represent the obstacles one must overcome to reach perfection. 1 Use rose to connect to your innermost self and foster feelings and expression of love.
If you like the sweet, honeyed scent of rose, you’ll love our Rose hydrating euphoric mist. Spritz over face and body to experience being both soothed and revitalized.
FLORAL ESSENTIAL OIL #2: BALANCING, CENTERING GERANIUM
When considering a floral essential oil to support feeling harmonized and restored to groundedness, geranium is a strong contender. Its scent profile is similar to rose in that it’s a sweet floral with a rich undertone. In her book “The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy”, 2 author Valerie Worwood says, “Geranium is one of my favorite oils because it works profoundly on the emotions and is useful in many medical conditions - and smells wonderful while it works so hard”. Use geranium to lift your spirit, ease stress and bring about inner peace.
If you like the ritzy, heady-floral scent of geranium, you’ll love our Balance centering diffuser blend. Diffuse a comforting blend that also includes grounding oils of sandalwood and frankincense.
FLORAL ESSENTIAL OIL #3: EUPHORIC, MYSTERIOUS CLARY SAGE
Clary Sage is an essential oil with a sweet, warming and herbal aroma. The species name, Salvia sclarea, is derived from the Latin ‘clarus’ which means ‘clear’. 1 Clary sage is thought to act as a powerful euphoric, which can help to dispel racing or busy thoughts, and can support feeling meditative and at peace. Clary sage is thought to have stress-reducing and mood-boosting benefits; use this oil if you’re experiencing feeling frazzled and wish to quiet the mind and feel at ease.
If you like the mellow, sweet and herbaceous scent of clary sage, you’ll love our Chill Out grounding diffuser blend. Diffuse a centering blend that also includes calming essential oils of lavender and pine.
FLORAL ESSENTIAL OIL #4: RELAXING, PEACEFUL LAVENDER
Lavender is the most well-known and well-loved floral essential oil to help the body and mind experience a deep sense of calm, relaxation and restfulness. Native to the Mediterranean region, lavender is now cultivated in many countries, specifically for its essential oil. Originally produced for the perfumery industry, what’s known as ‘true’ lavender is now one of the world’s most used essential oils. Use lavender to calm heightened emotions and encourage compassion and gentleness towards others.
If you like the herbaceous and slightly woodsy-floral scent of lavender, you’ll love our Stress Release tension reducing roll-on. Apply to temples, wrists and along the jawline to help soothe and de-stress.
FLORAL ESSENTIAL OIL #5: SENSUAL, FIERY JASMINE
Sometimes called ‘the queen of the night’ due to its white, star-shaped and highly fragrant flowers that bloom during the evening hours, jasmine is a ritzy essential oil that is often considered in aromatherapy to act as an aphrodisiac. Jasmine has a long history of multicultural traditions, including use in China to scent and flavor teas and as incense to purify the atmosphere in public places. 1 Use jasmine to help boost and restore sexual vitality, and to help encourage intimacy and the expression of intimate feelings.
If you like the rich, earthy-floral scent of jasmine, you’ll love our Goddess euphoric diffuser blend. Diffuse a precious blend of mood-boosting florals that also includes rose and neroli.
