Sophie Jaffe on Pregnancy, Self Care and Your Wellness
Tips on how to take care of you and your growing family (including a kid-friendly breakfast recipe) from the founder of the superfood brand, Philosophie.
Founder of LA-based nutrition brand, Philosophie, Sophie is no stranger to balancing personal wellness and raising little ones. She shares her how she’s been keeping herself well—mind, body and spirit—for her third pregnancy, and a quick, nutrient-rich meal that will help the whole fam feel good.
This spring, the Jaffe household has been magical and full of potent energy. I’m nearing the end of my third pregnancy and am so ready to welcome our baby girl. This pregnancy has not been an easy one. I decided to open up and share my journey, from being nauseous for five months to the flu and all the while still parenting and owning a business.
I’ve received an abundance of positive encouragement and support, and also been exposed to energy that doesn’t serve me or my family. I’ve learned so much about myself and the power of vulnerability. Meditation has been healing; listening to my inner soul, cutting out unhealthy relationships or negativity, and connecting to the womb and heart. I’ve held space to let it all in and have found a new inner strength. Through it all I’ve envisioned my little angel and taken up the practice of truly manifesting her. It’s honestly how I’ve made it this far.

Make Your Own Wellness A Priority
I’ve also made it a priority to take complete care of my entire self by flooding my body with nutritious foods and covering my skin/hair/everywhere with natural, organic products. Wellness practices and rituals have been absolutely necessary during this pregnancy and as a mama and entrepreneur, taking the time for self care is crucial to my well being.
For me, wellness is a combination of the thoughts you think, the foods you eat, and how you treat your body. In order to be the best mama you can be, you need to take priority. The amount of love you give yourself and family will be reflected in your kiddos. They’ll give all that love right back.
Start Your Day with Self Care
I start my day with a quiet, calm morning—I take a few minutes to myself and care for my soul and body. Most mornings, I wake up and meditate or journal, then devote at least 10 minutes to some much-needed self care. I wash my face and use Chrysalis Water, an acid-balancing witch hazel loaded with natural fragrant oils, to wake my body up and help me feel refreshed.
My body has changed dramatically over these past months and my new favourite skin products are the Saje Vitamin Ease and Chest Mate from the new Baby Care line. Vitamin Ease helps to moisturize my skin with aloe, coconut oil and vitamin E and helps keep your skin soft well into post-pregnancy. Amazing! I’m looking forward to continuing using these products postpartum and to finding quiet moments to take care of my own body and soothe my skin.

Love Your Body with Movement
As a mama and entrepreneur, I’m constantly on the go. My body has seen a lot of wear and tear, especially lately. It’s so important to treat our body with natural foods and products. I strive to do everything from a place of love—which means working out because I love the movement of my body, or eating because food tastes good. The moment you do something because someone says “it’s good for you” is the moment that it loses some of its power.
I try to sweat at least 10 minutes every day because it fuels me and feels good. I work my schedule around my boys and my family. Once they’re home that usually means no more meetings or calls and only family time. I strive for a true mind and body connection in everything I do. If something isn’t fueling me both on the inside and outside, then I don’t get behind it.

Keep the Food Real
Whether it’s getting ready for school, a commercial shoot, or a family day trip, we always seem to have somewhere to be. After a morning dance party in the living room, I like to make yummy, nutritious breakfasts for the boys loaded with Philosophie superfoods (check out the recipe below!). Substituting a lot of traditional ingredients for healthier options is an easy parenting trick I’ve picked up so that my boys stay healthy but still get to enjoy their favorite meals. They won’t even know the difference! It’s all about eating meals with nutrient-dense, whole foods instead of limiting your options.
Embrace Who You Really Are
Once we overcome the fear of being incredibly vulnerable and uncomfortable, we have the capacity to truly grow. By stripping down to our truest selves and using products that bring out your natural core, we allow others to see us for who we really are, and they, in turn, are so much more likely to share with us their true selves, ultimately allowing for greater trust and compassion.

Superfood Power Pancakes
Host brunch at home with these simple-to-make, protein-packed pancakes or waffles! They have an oh-so-yummy flavour fusion of cinnamon and vanilla, not to mention a burst of vitamins and minerals from the Berry Bliss and Berry Bee Honey.
Ingredients (Serves 2-3)
- 1 ¼ cup gluten-free flour
- ¼ cup coconut flour
- 1 ½ cups dairy-free milk
- 1 whole egg
- 2 egg whites
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 tbsp Philosophie Berry Bliss Superfood + Protein Blend
- 1 tbsp Philosophie Berry Bee Honey
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- a pinch of Himalayan pink salt
Instructions
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until they become fluffy. Set aside.
- Combine your flours, salt, powders, and spices in a bowl. Then mix in the wet ingredients and stir until everything is fully incorporated.
- Gently fold the whipped egg whites into your batter.
- Warm a frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Spray with a coconut oil spray (or wipe with a small amount of coconut oil) and pour small amounts of your batter, keeping in mind the sizes and shapes of pancakes you’d like.
- When small bubbles start to form, flip your pancakes (about 2-3 minutes). Let them cook on the other side for another minute or until they are golden brown.
- Top with your favourite ingredients like slivered almonds, fresh berries, honey, coconut flakes, or chocolate chips!
