Here at Saje, essential oils are at the very heart of what we do. We believe that essential oils we derive from leaves, bark, flowers, roots, fruit peels and more are powerful, potent ingredients that can support you in a variety of ways.

Essential oils are volatile chemical compounds derived from plants that work to capture the “flavor” or “essence” of the plant when it’s distilled as an essential oil. There is such a vast array of plants and plant species that produce essential oils, and some are more well-known than others. Some very common essential oils include peppermint, chamomile, grapefruit and so many others, while lesser-known essential oils that we blend with from time to time include helichrysum, basil, coriander and labrador tea.

In this article, we’re sharing five different essential oils we think everyone should become familiar with, and some of the products they’re showcased in. We hope you learn something new and discover some new favorites today!

OUR FAVORITE ESSENTIAL OILS: FRANKINCENSE

How can we begin to describe the love we have for frankincense? This essential oil is distilled from the fragrant and gum-like resin of the frankincense tree, which produces the herbal, woody, earthy and balsamic note we know and love today.

Frankincense is well-studied throughout history for its many uses in spiritual ceremonies and rituals, including as a sacred part of embalming. Historically used as fragrant incense and as a staple in the perfume industry, frankincense is thought to promote feelings of peacefulness, relaxation and may be used as part of a meditation routine.

Some of the products we offer that include frankincense in their formulation are as follows:

Goodnight diffuser blend: this warm, rich, earthy, woody and herbal blend is a perfect accompaniment to rest in the evening time. This blend also includes roman chamomile to comfort the mind and body, sandalwood to provide grounding and balance and cedarwood to ease the mind and still racing thoughts.

Detox Mode clay face mask: because frankincense is such a versatile ingredient, it’s also thought to help relieve dryness on the skin and help promote deep hydration and visible skin vitality. This purifying clay face mask also includes bamboo charcoal to draw out dirt and oil from clogged pores and kaolin clay, a cleansing mineral to provide gentle exfoliation and reduce excess oil on the skin.

OUR FAVORITE ESSENTIAL OILS: EUCALYPTUS

A well-recognized essential oil in aromatherapy, eucalyptus comes to us from the abundant leaves of the eucalyptus tree. Commonly referred to as “the breathing oil,” eucalyptus has a sharp, pungent, medicinal and distinct aroma that helps to encourage deep, clear and open breathing. Often included in products to support relief from symptoms of cough and cold, this cleansing and comforting essential oil is a staple in any wellness collection.

Fortify roll-on: the hero product in our cough and cold collection, this is a powerfully relieving essential oil blend formulated to support you when you’re feeling under the weather. When you’re looking for relief from symptoms like cough due to cold, this blend of refreshing and herbal tea tree, herbal and woody eucalyptus and warm and spicy cinnamon can help you get back on your feet in no time.

Deep Breath diffuser blend: blended to mimic the clearing, relaxing and fortifying experience of a eucalyptus steam room at the spa, this blend is both revitalizing and relaxing. We’ve combined eucalyptus alongside sharp and pungent peppermint, sunny and citrusy lemon and herbal and warming marjoram for a sensorial experience that feels just as good as taking your first deep breath of the day.

OUR FAVORITE ESSENTIAL OILS: LAVENDER

Likely the most well-recognized, well-tolerated and well-loved of all essential oils, the first sniff of floral, sweet and herbal lavender provides as instant feeling of peace, calm and ease in both the body and mind. Lavender is well-regarded for its uses that encourage feeling restful and balanced, helping to ease symptoms of stress and support a feeling of being comforted and in harmony.

Sleep Well roll-on: our best-selling roll-on product to support you in feeling rested at bedtime, Sleep Well is a powerful combination of oils thought to help still the mind, provide ease to the body and in turn help you get the sleep you need each night to feel your best the next day. This blend also includes the potent essential oil valerian root, an herb prized for its relaxing qualities, harmonizing floral scents like jasmine and neroli and two different types of chamomiles to help you feel grounded and restored.

OUR FAVORITE ESSENTIAL OILS: ROSE

Rose is well-regarded as the Queen of all flowers, the most precious essential oil and an important part of any essential oil collection. Rose is sweet, light, floral and soft smelling, and is known to be hydrating and comforting to the skin while also being supportive of emotional and spiritual health. The production of rose essential oil is a true labor of love; upwards of five dozen roses and their petals are distilled to produce one singular drop of precious rose essential oil.
