‘Tis the Season for Self Care
Feel restored, inspired and grateful throughout the holidays with easy tips for inviting wellness into your home and daily routine.
You know the scene: you forgot to sew the antlers onto your son’s holiday pageant costume, you’re running late to pick up your in-laws from the airport, and you still need to find the perfect gift for your sister. Over the holidays, self-care and time for Y-O-U can take a back seat to an ever-growing to-do list filled with things we are doing for others.
Although it might not seem like it, it is possible to get everything done while making some time for yourself to relax and unwind—it all comes down to priorities. Putting self-care at the top of your list is a surefire way to ensure you enjoy all the holiday feels rather than powering through and risking holiday burnout. Read on for some of our favourite self-care and wellness rituals to keep you feeling merry and bright all season long:
Inhale calm, exhale stress
When you’ve burnt the gingerbread or you’re stuck in a traffic jam in the mall parking lot, sometimes all you need is a deep breath to bring you back to the present moment. Our Co-Founder, Jean-Pierre LeBlanc created a wellness practice called the Saje Breath that you can easily access in those moments when the holiday craziness hits.
Here’s how to do it:
- Pick a remedy based on what you need in that moment (Stressed? Try Stress Release. Need a pick-me-up? Go with Energy. Feeling under the weather? Immune is your go-to) and roll it onto the palm of your hand
- Rub your hands together briskly
- Cup your hands over your nose and mouth and breathe deeply
- Hold your breath for a count of three, and release slowly and calmly
- Feel the positive effects in your mind, body and spirit
- Repeat whenever you need it, wherever you are
Ditch the phone, feel the om
After a full day of shopping and holiday party hopping, the last thing your mind and body need is for you to get lost in the vortex of your phone. We love our devices for staying connected with people we’re close to, but could do without their tendency to induce anxiety, impact our ability to be fully present and reduce the quality of our sleep.
This holiday season, we’re swapping digital devices for wellness-boosting ones, like diffusers. You can bring the grounding and healing aromas of nature into your home with just a few drops of an essential oil blend and the press of a button.
Add a little extra flair to your holiday decor with some of our special edition diffusers like the Aroma Om Gold Marble or the Aroma Tree. To fill your home with the cozy, nostalgic aromas of the season, try some of our limited edition holiday blends like warming Festive Friday, cheerful Sugar Plum Fairy or refreshing Peppermint Twist.
Welcome wellness into your home over the holidays with an ultrasonic diffuser like the Aroma Om Gold Marble.
Attitude of gratitude
Pressing pause and reflecting on everything you have to be grateful for is a perfect way to fuel your wellness throughout the holiday season. Practicing gratitude doesn’t have to be time-consuming: even a few minutes a day can elevate your mood and help you feel grounded.
Find a quiet time in your day—before you get out of your car, while you’re in transit, or even when you’re waiting in line for your gingerbread latte—to write down three to five things you’re grateful for. Try not to worry about what you’re adding to your gratitude list. It can include everything from your family to your fuzzy slippers to the smell of your grandma’s pumpkin pie. Before you feel yourself turning into a Scrooge, reflect back on a few days of gratitude lists and restore your festive spirit.
Take a moment
Self care can take many forms, but sometimes there is nothing more rejuvenating than a nice long soak in the tub. Up your bath game with healing essential oils that support a zen state of mind (Stress Release or Unwind will do the trick).
Once you’ve soaked your holiday stresses away, keep the good feels going with the Peace of Mind Kit (coming soon). Practice a Saje Breath with the Stress Release Tension Reducing Remedy, keep a Stress Release Inhaler close at hand in case hectic holiday feels make a comeback, and set up for restful sleep success by spritzing some Yoga Transition Mist on your pillow.
Catch enough z’s
If you make time for one type of self-care this holiday season, let it be sleep. A good night’s rest is often the first thing to go when our social calendars fill up, but getting at least eight hours is a wellness non-negotiable, in our books.
It’s not always easy to drift off when your mind is racing with last-minute tasks or you pulled the short straw and got the lumpy mattress at your in-laws. When you need a little support with your slumber, try our Sleep Well Kit. The kit is a four-step process designed to lull you into a deep, restful sleep.
When we make the time to care for ourselves, we make space to remember what the holidays are truly about—spending time with the people we love and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Here’s to a season filled with gratitude, wellness and all the warm, fuzzy feels.
