In terms of how to use a diffuser, the instructions are easy to follow but very important in keeping your unit functioning optimally. The first step is to fill the unit using cool, clean tap water. A best practice is to pour water from a vessel into the unit, rather than filling the unit under the running tap water, as you want to avoid water entering sensitive parts of the diffuser like the air vents, which can cause your unit to malfunction. You also want to be certain not to fill the unit past the ‘max fill’ line, which is clearly visible on the inner tank of any of our diffusers. Diffusers are safe to use in the home because they are heat and flame free and because each unit has an auto shutoff feature. Once the water has emptied from the water tank and can no longer be detected by the sensors in the unit, the diffuser will automatically turn off and will remain this way until it is refilled and turned on again.

The number one reason for malfunction on our diffusers is directly related to the cleanliness of the unit. Though quick and simple to do, it is imperative to clean the diffuser regularly (depending on usage, we recommend every 1-2 weeks) to remove residue and buildup from inside the water tank and near the ultra-sensitive ultrasonic disc. We recommend our diffuser care kit and a gentle rinse with a small amount of water to keep your diffuser fresh, clean and functioning optimally.
To prevent accidental leaks when using your diffuser, always ensure the diffuser is placed on a solid, sturdy surface like a coffee table, kitchen counter or nightstand.
Take care to only fill your diffuser to the recommended “max fill” line, indicated in the inner tank of each of our units. Overfilling your diffuser can result in leakage or malfunction of your unit.
When filling your diffuser, it’s recommended to bring water directly to your unit in a small measuring cup, rather than filling your diffuser with water directly from the tap. It’s important to be mindful not to splash water into the air filters or motor of the diffuser, which can result in malfunction.
What matters most when choosing essential oil diffuser blends is related to the purity of the oils. Diffusers are intended to be used with only 100% pure essential oils that do not contain any carrier oils like coconut oil, grapeseed or jojoba. Using carrier oils in a diffuser is another one of the reasons for malfunction as they are too thick to be broken up by the ultrasonic disc and can result in clogging.

The majority of diffusers we offer at Saje have only one or two buttons. We design our units to be simple to use and understand, thus making them highly functional in your space.
If the diffuser you select offers an optional LED light feature, it will have its own separate button that allows you to turn the light on or off. The button that turns the unit on or off is also the button that allows you to place your diffuser in a continuous or intermittent setting, if this function is offered. Typically, pressing the button once will turn the unit on, pressing the button the second time will initiate the intermittent functionality, (where the unit will run for 30 seconds, turn off for 30 seconds and then repeat) and pressing the button the third time will turn the unit off.
The optional LED lights featured on some of our diffusers are intended to help create a gentle glow and an ambience in any room they are placed. Not intended to be illuminating in the same way as a lamp or reading light, these lights are an option for those seeking a nightlight or a candescent glow.
