Can you tell me more about the specific issue affecting Splish Splash?
We recently discovered levels of a bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa that is known to cause health concerns. This bacteria was not present in any previous tests. This discovery is what prompted the recall of Splish Splash.

What is the root cause?
During recent routine testing of some samples of Splish Splash Baby Wash, we discovered levels of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacteria that can cause infection. This bacteria was not found to be present in any previous tests. Although we don’t know if all batches of Splish Splash were affected, we are being proactive and recalling all product immediately. We are doing everything in our power to directly contact everyone who purchased or received Splish Splash Baby Wash in order to prevent any additional risk.
How did this happen?
We’re in the process of finding out exactly how and why a sample of our Splish Splash has been found to contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
What are the health risks?
Community Members with compromised immune systems are at the highest risk. Only three cases have been reported so far; in those cases, symptoms showed up as skin irritation (allergic rash or itching). It’s important to stop using Splish Splash, and to return it to us. If you notice any unusual reactions, symptoms, or behaviours, see a doctor promptly.

What is Pseudomonas and how does it impact your health?
Pseudomonas is a bacteria found commonly in the environment. This bacteria has been known to cause infection, particularly in people with compromised immune systems. In healthy people, an infection may cause minor issues like swimmer’s ear and hot tub rash. Signs and symptoms of more serious infection include high fever, chills, confusion, and shock.
What are the symptoms to look for?
If you have any concerns that your baby or child is unwell, please see contact your doctor. Specific signs that infection may be present include:
- Skin rash, redness, or irritation
- Ear aches—baby may fuss, cry, pull at the ear, be restless, or have a fever. In severe infection, thick, yellow fluid may come from the ear. Older children may complain that the ear feels plugged.
- Fever
- Chills
- Confusion
- Shock

My baby is showing symptoms after using the wash – what should I do?
If your baby or other members of your family who have used or been exposed to Splish Splash are experiencing unusual symptoms or are feeling unwell, please contact your health practitioner.
Are there concerns around other products?
Splish Splash is the only product found to be affected. We’ll continue regularly testing our products to ensure they meet the highest safety and quality guidelines for our Community Members.
What about the rest of the baby products/products?
Only Splish Splash was affected. All other Saje products, including the rest of the baby line, can be used and enjoyed as usual, including the rest of the products found in the Wee and Well kit.
Is there a concern for adults using this product?
Yes—because Pseudomonas aeruginosa can affect people of all ages, including adults. It’s important that Community Members of all ages discontinue use of Splish Splash, return the product and contact a doctor if symptoms occur.
I have an autoimmune disorder/compromised immune system; what should I do?
Discontinue use of Splish Splash immediately. If you have signs of infection, or have health concerns, speak to your doctor right away.
How do I return the product?
Please return product to any Saje location, or contact one of our Community Experience team members at: 1-877-275-7253 or by email at hello@saje.com
Back to top
Why are you making me return this product?
We understand that returning the product is an inconvenience to our Community Members, and we sincerely apologize for this. However, due to the presence of bacteria, it’s extremely important that the product be returned to us, so we can properly account for and discard all bottles that entered the market. We want to make the return as smooth and convenient as possible; if you’re not able to make it to a Saje store, we’d be happy to arrange for the product to be returned in the mail, using a prepaid postage label.
How come you didn’t test this product for a longer period of time?
Although we tested Splish Splash—and all products in our baby line—prior to launch, the contamination recently detected was part of post-launch stability testing, conducted on an ongoing basis.
What are you going to do to make sure this never happens again?
We’re conducting a thorough investigation and reviewing production procedures in collaboration with our manufacturer. Once we know why this issue occurred, we can take specific actions to correct the problem.
Is this issue related to the product being all natural?
This is unlikely. Both Health Canada and the FDA list a number of product recalls due to the presence or suspected presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The same bacteria has been found in products that contain natural and synthetic ingredients. It’s important to note that this bacteria occurs frequently in the environment—and that contamination can occur in products regardless of whether or not they are natural.
Was this the cause of a specific ingredient?
We don’t know the cause yet, but an investigation is in process.
When will Splish Splash be back in stock?
Splish Splash will only be back in stock when we’re confident that this issue has been resolved. We don’t yet know when this product will be available again.
