Facial toner and other skin care products to get you glowing

Last Updated: 04/23/2024

WHAT IS FACIAL TONER AND WHY DO WE USE IT?

Facial toner, usually referred to in skin care simply as ‘toner’, is usually a water based product, typically applied as a mist or using a cotton pad, that is used as part of your skincare routine after cleansing and before serums or moisturizers. Toner is a product that penetrates the skin and is absorbed quickly, delivering a boost of hydration and helping to remove any residual cleanser and traces of dirt, oil and makeup.

In the past, you may recall that many toning products contained high levels of alcohol and were reserved for use with those who identified as having oily or acne prone skin, in an effort to remove excess oil from the skin. The toners of today have changed significantly in that their primary purpose is to act as leave-on products that prep and prime the skin for even more moisture from the products that follow.

Toner is beneficial for supporting the health and wellness of the pores of the skin. It removes impurities and helps your remaining skin care products draw deeper into the skin’s layers, helping to tone and clarify the look and feel of the pores on the face. Depending on the need state of your face and your skin care goals, you can select facial toner based on potential outcomes like controlling or reducing oil, easing dryness or treating irritated skin for symptoms like redness.

INTRODUCING THE NEW FACIAL TONER AS PART OF OUR CLARITEA PRODUCT LINE

We’ve just launched a brand new collection of skin care products and as part of our Claritea line for oily, acne and blemish prone skin, we’re excited to announce our brand new facial toner, Claritea Toner, to clarify and balance with our superstar ingredient juniper berry.

Claritea Toner with packaging

This alcohol free toner has been formulated specifically for skin types that identify as oily or combination, and for those looking to target and treat blemishes, pimples and acne. Our formula uses innovative ingredients to help refine the pores, reduce excess oil and reduce the appearance of tender skin like redness and dryness. Our herbal, fresh and earthy facial toner is the ideal second step of your skincare routine, post-cleansing and pre-moisturizing, to help restore harmony to the skin both day and night.

Let’s take a look at the ingredients in our Claritea facial toner more closely:

Water: acts as a base and allows the other ingredients in the formulation to to carry to the skin to help quench a thirsty complexion

Alum Salts: liquid mineral salts derived from natural formations on rock act as a skin toner, helping to remove lingering traces of dirt, oil and makeup while providing toning and clarifying to the skin for a clear, fresh, radiant appearance

Tea Tree essential oil: thought to calm and soothe signs of irritated skin like redness, inflammation and dryness, tea tree is the most well-known essential oil used to help reduce the appearance of acne and blemishes, encouraging the appearance of smooth, clear skin

Geranium essential oil: balancing and soothing to irritated or inflamed skin, geranium is known for its ability to help encourage healing and may be effective in covering or concealing the appearance of skin inflammation

Patchouli essential oil: helps to promote a smooth and glowing complexion and is commonly included in skin care products that target signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles and in acne products meant to calm and clarify the appearance of the skin

To use Claritea facial toner, close your eyes and mouth and mist 3-5 times directly over the face after cleansing and before applying serums or moisturizers. You can also spritz directly to a cotton pad and swipe gently across the face.

FACIAL TONER AND OTHER SKIN CARE PRODUCTS IN THE CLARITEA LINE

The two remaining products in the Claritea line were designed for use immediately before and after using the clarifying and mildly astringent facial toner.

Claritea Gel Cleanser is formulated with essential oils like tea tree, patchouli, bergamot and roman chamomile to help remove traces of dirt, oil and makeup, ensuring a smooth foundation for the remainder of your skin care products. To ensure skin stays balanced and doesn’t feel dry nor produce excess oil, we’ve also blended hydrating and skin regulating ingredients like jojoba oil and nature derived squalane for use with oily or acne prone skin both morning and night.

Claritea Moisturizer clarifies and balances the skin with mild, gentle apricot kernel oil which helps provide non-greasy hydration to oily and acne prone skin types while ensuring skin stays supple and plump. This formula also contains camelina seed oil, elderberry fruit extract and oat kernel extract to smooth skin’s texture, stabilize oil production and help repair inflamed skin.

USING ROSE MIST AS A FACIAL TONER

For skin types like normal, combination, sensitive, dry and mature, our suggestion for a hydrating toner is nourishing, delicate and deliciously aromatic Rose Mist. Rose essential oil, distilled from the most precious of all flowers, helps to hydrate dry skin, reduce the appearance of aging skin by visibly minimizing fine lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity and helps to promote healthy, glowing skin and even skin tone. Safe for all skin types, you can spritz Rose Mist over the hair, face and body anytime you’re looking to feel harmonized and uplifted and specifically as part of your skincare routine between cleansing and treating or moisturizing.

TREATMENT PRODUCTS TO USE AFTER FACIAL TONER

As part of a healthy and well-balanced skincare routine, we like to use facial oils to help treat and replenish the skin. Though typically applied as the final step in your skincare routine after moisturizer, you can experiment with the order of products you apply and see what feels right for you.

We’re thrilled to share with you the three facial oils we’ve developed as part of our brand new skin care collection. When selecting a facial oil to use with oily or acne prone skin and in conjunction with the three products from the Claritea line, think of your secondary skin care goals; does the foundation of your skin feel relatively normal and balanced? Are you prone to irritation and identify as having sensitive skin? Is moisture replenishment on the top of your list? Remembering to treat your skin with gentleness and care means addressing the myriad skin afflictions you may experience and adjusting as necessary.

If you identify as having normal/combination skin, you’ll love our Glow On Face Oil. An antioxidant-rich formula with purifying parsley seed, renewing raspberry seed oil and hydrating camelina seed oil, Glow On was formulated to lock in moisture and protect from environmental effects that can cause damage or dryness.

If you identify as having sensitive/irritated skin, you’ll love our Calm-O-Mile Face Oil. A soothing and fortifying formula with calming blue chamomile, nourishing evening primrose oil and texture-improving camellia seed oil, Calm-O-Mile was formulated to ease dryness and reduce the appearance of redness, leaving skin soft, relieved and restored.

If you identify as having dry/mature skin, you’ll love our True Dew Face Oil. A rejuvenating and hydrating formula with strengthening rose otto, antioxidant-rich pomegranate seed and precious helichrysum essential oil, True Dew helps to reduce the signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, restores elasticity and leaves skin plump and silky smooth.

LIFESTYLE TIPS FOR INCORPORATING FACIAL TONER INTO YOUR DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE

Many people aren’t familiar with using facial toner as part of their daily routine or the experience they’ve had in the past of drying and irritating alcohol-based formulas has turned them off of the product as a whole. Here are three reasons why we think you should give facial toner a try:

  1. Face toner can help to minimize the appearance of pores on your skin. When pores appear shrunken and tighter, the skin has a smoother, softer and more refined look and feel.
  2. Facial toner helps to remove the last little bits left behind from cleansing. The final traces of dirt, oil and makeup removed by using facial toner can help calm the skin and alleviate any temporary redness or discomfort.
  3. Facial toner helps prep the skin to receive moisture from the products that follow. The moist and dewy skin on the face after spritzing with toner is perfectly primed for your water based treatment serums and moisturizers that follow. Like attracts like, so a small amount of moisture on the skin helps pull water even deep into the inner layers of the skin, helping your skin look and feel balanced, restored and protected.
Beauty is being comfortable in your own skin.
