Gifts for college students

Last Updated: 02/08/2024

We’re making choosing gifts for college students easy as 1-2-3!

It’s the time of year when ‘back to school’ is all around us. Maybe you’re the one making the cross-country trip to your new dorm room and very first home-away-from-home, or perhaps you’re sending your loved one off to college for the very first time. Whatever the situation, we know that for college students, the next few months are going to fly by in a blur of textbooks, homework, coffee dates and late night pizza. A gift to wish them well and set them up for success may be just what they need to start this school year off on the right foot.

We’ve compiled a list of our favorite recommendations of gifts for college students, from those who are leaving home for the first time, to those who are looking for ways to manage their stress, naturally. These gifts for college students will support them in taking care of themselves this year, and you can rest easy in knowing that they’re using clean, high quality ingredients in body and home products formulated to help them feel calm, cool and collected.

Gifts for college students who’ve just set out on their own

So they’re leaving the nest, flying the coop, moving away from home for the very first time. Perhaps they’re already a seasoned pro, having learned to do their own laundry many years ago, or perhaps they’re the type who need step by step directions… on properly doing the dishes. No matter their level of skill in the home, we’ve got you covered.

Multi-Surface all purpose cleanser: there isn’t much this surface cleanser can’t do. This spray cleanser was formulated with freshening ingredients like lemon eucalyptus and grapefruit to remove dirt and grime from surfaces like kitchen countertops and cupboards. Bonus? It can be used in the bathroom, too!

Laundry Love dryer balls: these dryer balls are made from 100% natural, unbleached and cruelty-free wool. We’ve sourced this wool from a farm in New Zealand, with some of the strictest animal welfare regulations you’ll find. These dryer balls are designed to reduce drying time and prevent static cling, making trips to the laundromat that much easier. This set also comes with a blend you can add to the dryer balls to help keep fabrics smelling fresh.

Airoma Loo bathroom spray: this mist is a friendly way of saying that a college dorm bathroom isn’t always the freshest smelling room in the home. This air spray, blended with peppermint, eucalyptus and tea tree, is an easy way to neutralize airborne odors and keep the bathroom (or any room in the home!) feeling crisp.

Gifts for college students who are hitting the books

Many of the college students in our lives will be spending countless hours over the next while buried deep in textbooks, articles and screens, as they prep for lectures, term papers and exams. There really is no shortage to the amount of work that goes into getting good grades; we’re providing some top gift recommendations for the student looking for straight A’s this semester:

Brainstorm roll-on: this stimulating and revitalizing blend helps you stay sharp, whether studying, working or any time you need a lift in your day. This blend is invigorating and uplifting, helping to promote feeling upbeat and a heightened sense of awareness.

Refresh mist: Encourage them to keep this mist close by throughout the day. Blended with boosting, invigorating essential oils like spearmint, eucalyptus and lemon, this blend is designed to help support them in feeling lifted and refreshed. A few spritzes of this mist may very well help them to replace their 2nd (or 3rd!) coffee of the day!

Gifts for college students who are feeling the pressure

As gratifying and exciting as it is to return to school in the Fall, we know that the pressure is on as soon as they hit the books! Many students report feelings of restlessness, tension and unease, which can negatively impact their ability to concentrate, study, or even just feel their best. Experts agree that taking steps to reduce our collective stress is one of the very best things we can do to support both our short and long term well being, as well as work to improve everything from our sleep to our digestion. We’re providing some recommendations on our favorite 100% plant-based products to help stress take a backseat this semester.

Stress Release roll-on: this calming and balancing blend of nurturing and gentle essential oils like lavender, orange and clary sage was formulated to help release stress from both the body and mind. Roll on to pulse points and temples, or breathe deeply to experience feeling grounded and calmed.

Stress Release bath salt soak: fill up the tub and soak your worries away. The Stress Release bath salts are the same soothing formula as the roll-on, but formulated to help de-stress the mind while also leaving the body feeling refreshed, cleansed and hydrated. Encourage them to add 2-5 tablespoons of these balancing salts to their bath and soak for 30 minutes to feel calmed.

Gifts for college students looking to find a moment of zen

One of the most effective ways to bring stillness to the mind amid a frenzy of homework and midterms is to shift their focus towards mindfulness. Thousands and thousands of people around the world have reported the many benefits of mindfulness, specifically meditation, including feeling angry or irritated less often, feeling generally happier and experiencing the joys of feeling at peace. These products can be added to their meditation practice with ease.

Yoga roll-on: one of our most popular scents here at Saje is the grounding, woodsy-sweet smells of our Yoga line, including orange, patchouli and neroli. Known for its ability to support feeling grounded and balanced, this roll-on can be applied pre or post meditation or mindfulness ritual to encourage relaxation and clarity.

Yoga diffuser blend: this blend of inspiring and blissful oils also includes essential oils of ho wood and champa, for those looking to infuse the air in their space with peaceful vibes. A little goes a long way with this blend; add 4-6 drops to their favorite diffuser and they’ll be feeling zen in no time.

Mindful gifts for college students that let them know you care

Many of the college students in our lives are going to be taking on a number of new experiences all at once, whether it’s living on their own or juggling their schoolwork and their part time job. We’ve providing some of our best tips for mindful gifting this year, to help them make the transition with ease:

  1. Gift card for groceries. Who wouldn’t appreciate being able to fill their cart with goodies that won’t make a dent in their wallet? This gift is practical and thoughtful, and can help ensure they’re being nourished and well-fed this school year.
  2. A massage. Good old fashioned human connection that gives them a chance to relax and feel taken care of. Massage is the perfect way to unwind and de-stress while taking care of their physical body and mental wellness.
  3. A gift certificate to a home goods store. You don’t realize how the little things add up until you’re paying for them on your own. Treat them to a gift card that lets them purchase their next desk lamp, memory foam pillow or toaster oven… on you.

Practical gifts for college students to feel right at home this year

For many people, the toughest part of the transition to college or university is being away from friends and family, or the most familiar places in their life. Here are some easy tips to help set them up for success, and for their best year yet!

  1. Help them find a place to live that makes the most sense. Is it within walking distance of their new school? Is it a safe neighborhood? Is the rent affordable?
  2. Encourage them to choose wisely when it comes to a new roommate. This is the person they’ll be spending a lot of time with! Ensure their values are aligned when it comes to studying, quiet time and houseguests.
  3. Learning to cook simple and healthy meals will not only save them time, but money. Eating well is one of the most important ways we can all take care of ourselves, body and mind.
  4. Help them plan their budget, and stick to it. The last thing they’ll need is to be stressed over money! When they live within their means, their wallet will thank them later.

Going off to college should be a fun and rewarding experience! Whether it’s a gift for yourself on a job well done or a gift for the college student in your life, you can’t go wrong with natural wellness.
