Discover essential oil lotion and other body care products you’ll love

What sets body care products apart from many others like treatments or specialty items is that for most of us, we use them every day. From your morning skin care routine to your after-work shower and all the way to your before-bedtime bath, regular use of body care products is something that most of us identify with.

Body care products are also some of the most important products to start with when making the swap from synthetic to natural, precisely because of the fact we’re using them so frequently. Many lower priced body care products available today are full of less than desirable ingredients like parabens, preservatives that have been linked to hormone disruptions, synthetic fragrances that have been linked to skin rashing and irritation and other no-no's like polyethylene glycol products (PEGs) that are sometimes derived from petroleum products. When so many clean, green options exist for essential oil lotions and other body care products, why take the risk?

At Saje we formulate all of our products to be free of potentially harmful and irritating ingredients like mineral oil, petroleum by-products, phthalates, silicone and sulfates, among many others. We pride ourselves on 100% natural and nature-derived ingredients, 100% of the time. Let’s explore some of them below!

Our top picks for essential oil lotion

Essential oil lotion is just one of a myriad of body care products you can use to support the health and well-being of your skin. As we move out of the chillier, drier winter months, it’s important to remember that our skin still needs moisture regularly, and that using lotion after a bath or shower when the skin is still damp is an excellent way to replenish our bodies. At Saje, we use carrier oils and other plant derivatives in the base of our lotions to help replenish and lock in moisture, ensuring the skin is never left feeling greasy or heavy. Some ingredients in our lotion bases include:

Shea nut oil: rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids, this skin superfood will leave you feeling radiant and deeply moisturized

Aloe Vera leaf juice: a rich source of antioxidants to help fight free radicals, aloe is skin conditioning and restorative

Mango seed oil: helping to gently exfoliate the skin, mango seed oil is cleansing and healing for the skin while promoting natural renewal

Our top picks for essential oil lotion:

Tingle Mint: our top-selling lotion for those who love the fresh, cooling and tingling sensation of peppermint, this lotion also includes essential oils of cleansing, refreshing tea tree and crisp, sweet spearmint.

Lavender and Friends: an herbal and floral lotion for those who love to feel relaxed and soothed, this essential oil lotion contains balancing, gentle lavender, brightening, stabilizing geranium and euphoric, mood-boosting clary sage.

Essential oil lotion and other products we love: body butter

Another body care product we love is the thicker, richer sister product to essential oil lotion, which is body butter. The biggest difference when choosing between lotion and body butter is the amount of moisture you’re looking to replenish in the skin. Because of higher water content, lotion tends to be of thinner viscosity, spreading to the skin more easily whereas body butter tends to be a thicker and creamier consistency, delivering the ultimate in restoration and replenishment to the skin. Some ingredients in our body butter bases include:

Coconut oil: boost your skin’s protective barrier layer, help to keep skin deeply hydrated, promotes skin’s suppleness

Candelilla wax: rich in nutrients, absorbs easily, helps prevent moisture loss

Vitamin E: rich in antioxidants, reduce environmental damage to skin, is strengthening to skin

Yoga: to instill grounded and balanced feelings, slather your body in notes of earthy, peaceful patchouli, floral and citrusy neroli and sweet, relaxing bergamot.

Sleep Well: the perfect accompaniment to your nighttime routine, choose this blend of calming, relaxing valerian, sweet, soothing roman chamomile and floral, restful lavender to help you drift off to dreamland.

Essential oil lotion and other products we love: skin care products

As big of fans as we are over here of essential oil lotion and body butter, we’re equally excited when it comes to talking skin care. Any product we can use to help our skin feel smooth, supple, luminous and glowing – sign us up! Because essential oils are so potent, only a very small amount is required in a skin care preparation in order to receive the maximum benefits of the plant; a little goes a long way! Here are two of the products we’re using to help keep our skin feeling supported:

Rose Mist: feel nurtured, balanced, soothed and hydrated after just a few spritzes of this precious essential oil mist. Rose, the queen of all flowers, is known to have a positive impact on dry, irritated skin that’s in need of a little extra TLC. Mist generously over the face, hair and body as needed.

Bakuchiol renewal serum: skin is softer, smoother, and firmer-looking following this honey-hued serum led by bakuchiol, the gold standard in natural plant-based retinol alternatives. Together with ultra-hydrating hyaluronic acid, regenerative and soothing tamanu oil, and light, moisture-locking milk thistle, it delivers soothed skin and more even tone day after day. After a Saje cleanser of your choice, apply 1–5 drops of serum to a clean face, eye contour, neck, décolleté and chest as desired.

Essential oil lotion and other products we love: foaming hand soap

Another product we feel passionately about when it comes to choosing 100% natural is hand soap. Because we know it’s more important than ever to keep our hands clean and free of germs, for most of us this has meant a dramatic increase in the amount of time spent washing each day. Ingredients like alcohol and synthetic fragrance, common in many conventional hand soaps, are known irritants that can cause skin to feel dry, chapped, cracked and irritated after repeated washing. As always, we formulate all of our products to be 100% natural which in this case means tough on dirt and grime while being gentle on you.

Our top picks for essential oil hand soaps:

Liquid Sunshine foaming hand soap: one our best-selling fragrances is the crisp, zesty and cheerful citrus blend called Liquid Sunshine. Also an award-winning diffuser blend, this formula contains tart, invigorating citruses like lime, grapefruit and bergamot for the that fresh-squeezed-juice aroma each time you’re at the sink.

Liquid Sunshine Foaming Hand Soap

Tingle Mint foaming hand soap: if you’re drawn to the more energizing and stimulating scents of mint, this is the hand soap for you. Formulated with the cooling and herbal refreshment of peppermint, this blend also includes warming and soothing rosemary alongside sweet and invigorating spearmint.

How you can personalize your own essential oil lotion

Of course, for those interested in creating their own unique essential oil lotion, options do exist! It’s important to remember that essential oils are potent and only a very small number of drops are required in a blend. While we typically want to leave blending to the experts, here are a few of the simple ways you can customize your essential oil lotion experience:

  1. Add 1-3 drops of your favorite essential oil to an existing blend. For example, add extra lavender to Lavender & Friends lotion if you want to give it that added boost of florals. You can add the drops directly to the bottle and mix well, or you can disperse into the palm of your hand and add a drop for a one-time application.
  2. Use a carrier oil base like coconut oil or jojoba oil and add essential oils to them. Both of these base oils are absorbent and conditioning for the skin, and we know they blend well with essential oils. Again, 1-3 drops is all you’d need and for this type of DIY blending, we recommend sticking to gentle essential oils like lavender, geranium, ylang ylang or rose.
  3. You can purchase an unscented lotion and create your own! Look for a good quality lotion using high end ingredients that is free of the potential irritants we’ve talked about and add essential oils of your choice to the bottle. Less is more and remember to blend very well; you’ll need to mix the essential oils thoroughly into the lotion, lest they separate from the base and concentrate only in one small portion of the bottle. This is an instance in which you might consider purchasing a pre-blended lotion like the ones we’ve highlighted above, to help you take the guesswork out of the equation.

However you enjoy essential oil lotion, your skin will thank you for providing extra hydration and nourishment to keep it feeling and looking healthy and supple.
